My writing theory is Let's get to know me a little shall we? My name is Jill and I am 23 years old. I was born in Lansdowne, PA and graduated from Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast High School. I worked at a daycare for three years before deciding to go back to school. My family fosters three kids, two boys and one girl who is awaiting a liver transplant which is essentially my job now. I could go on and on about them but I'll save it for future assignments. I have two dogs and one cat who bring even more joy and craziness to our household.
Who are my favorite writers and/or composers? I've never been an avid reader but during my fall semester of college, I started to fall in love with writing again. I really enjoy reading Mary Karr's work.
What types of writing do I enact most often? I wish I could say anything other than social media but unfortunately, it's social media. Hopefully, this answer will change as the semester goes on.
When do I write? When it comes to social media, I write often when it's a special occasion. When it comes to writing freely, I feel like I write when I'm sad or scared. Unfortunately, I don't write very often.
Where do I write? I tend to write on my phone or laptop. My phone comes in handy when it's late at night and I can't fall asleep because my brain just won't shut off. I write down all my late night thoughts which mostly consists of emotional things like dying or losing a loved one. Dying really hits me at night when I'm alone.
Why do I write? I write to feel heard and motivated. Writing thoughts about my future and goals down whether on paper or on my laptop/phone, brings light to those goals.
How have my past experiences shaped my author identity and how can I reshape my author identity in this course? In high school, I feel like I lost touch with my author identity. I had teachers in the past who weren't really committed to teaching English the right way. It affected the way I looked at writing and viewed English in general. In this course, I feel like I can start to rebuild the relationship with my author-self. I can set aside time to really focus on my writing and gaining a better understanding of English as a whole.
